Frequently asked Questions

Our Approach to Sustainability

Sustainability has 3 pillars; social, economic, and environmental. These 3 pillars cannot exist independently, so we take an integrated approach, ensuring that we minimise emissions and reduce our waste where it is possible.

Environmental Sustainability:

This pillar focuses on protecting and preserving the natural environment, including ecosystems, natural resources, and biodiversity.

Social Sustainability:

This pillar emphasises equity, justice, and the well-being of individuals and communities.

Economic Sustainability:

This pillar aims to create resilient and thriving economies that provide opportunities for all, while also considering the long-term effects of economic activities

With an integrated approach Fire Containment has been able to reduce administration Office Emissions by going solar and introduction of waste reduction Policies. Reducing waste through strategies like recycling, reuse, and repair, minimises the consumption of resources and reduces environmental pollution.

Our small effort to the environment is minimise our greenhouse gas emissions as it is crucial for mitigating climate change and its negative impacts on the environment and society.

Best Practices

The “5 C’s of Sustainability” – Clean, Community, Culture, Care, and Corporate Governance – offer a transformative framework for a sustainable future for Fire Containment’s contributions to a cleaner environment.

  1. Clean: This pillar focuses on protecting our planet through clean energy adoption, waste reduction, and carbon footprint minimisation. It emphasises renewable energy sources and practices like recycling and waste reduction to reduce environmental pollution.
  2. Community: Sustainability is a collective effort requiring united action. Sustainable communities foster shared values, inclusivity, and mutual support. By collaborating, communities can address global challenges like climate change and social inequality through local initiatives. We have achieved this with our neighbours by installing solar panels on the roof commercial units.
  3. Culture: This aspect promotes a sustainability mindset, moving from consumption to conservation. It values cultural heritage, traditional wisdom, and diversity as assets in our sustainability journey, prioritising long-term prosperity over short-term gains. Our digitalisation on site and in-house we have made huge strides in this direction to achieve a sustainability mindset.
  4. Care: At the heart of sustainability, ‘Care’ encompasses our responsibility to the environment, each other, and future generations. It demands consideration of environmental impacts, cultivation of empathy, and decision-making that safeguards the planet’s future.  Employees working together have a stronger impact on changes.
  5. Corporate Governance: Businesses play a crucial role in driving sustainability. This pillar calls for corporations to adopt sustainable practices, ensure transparency and accountability, and take a stakeholder-centric approach to become catalysts for sustainable development.

By integrating these five pillars into our lives, we can create an equitable, resilient, and thriving future. The time for action is now – let’s embrace these principles and build a sustainable world for 2030 and beyond!

Can Passive Fire Protection and sustainability co-exist?

Yes, Passive Fire Protection ensures that if a fire breaks out in a building, it will be compartmentalised and minimised. This means that there is minimal fire damage leading to a reduction in the potential carbon that could be released from the fire. Besides emissions, it also works into sustainable building infrastructure as it will allow a building to be at less of a risk of destruction in the event of a fire.

How is Passive Fire Protection sustainable?

Passive Fire Protection minimises the damage done to a building and has a long-life span. In the event of a fire, the materials that burn can release harmful toxins into the air, having a significant impact on local health. Passive fire protection reduces this risk as less of a building will burn due to the services implemented into a building. Protecting a building from complete ruin also helps to strengthen the lifespan and integrity of a building.

What is Fire Containment doing to be sustainable?
  1. Fire Containment uses sustainable supply chains that reaches our sustainable goals in our offices and company structure.
  2. Raising awareness and engaging communities
  3. Implementing policies to address biodiversity
  4. Reducing greenhouse gas emissions such as power usage – with  solar panel installation.  Annaul CO2 emissions Saved (tonnes) 5.05.
Why does sustainability matter in Passive Fire Protection?

By using a sustainable method, we can contribute to a greener and more efficient future. Using sustainable materials, and long-lasting services, we will help to protect the infrastructure for future generations.

Do our services use sustainable materials?

Sustainable materials can be used in these services. Intumescent paint, and materials with low levels of VOCs (volatile organic compounds).

What is sustainability?

The UN defines sustainability as ‘meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’. What does this mean for Passive Fire Protection: for Fire Containment this is prolonging and protecting the integrity of your homes and businesses by using the best eco-friendly materials and safegaurding the future of buildings.

Is Ireland a sustainable country?

Yes, but it’s not perfect. According to the UN, Ireland has achieved 80% of the 169 sustainability targets set out to be completed by 2030. However, Ireland still has a long way to go. The EPA stated that we will only achieve a 29% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, compared to the agreed upon 51% by 2030.

What are the 17 SDGs?

The 17 SDGs (Sustainable development goals) were set out and agreed upon by all UN member states. These goals outline in detail the 17 goals that every state needs to achieve in order to be truly sustainable. Ireland has made great strides in SDG 2, 3 & 4 (Hunger reduction, health and wellbeing, and education respectively), but there is still much to accomplish in the likes of SDG 11 & 12 (responsible consumption and production, and climate action).

What makes Nullifire’s new foil packs stand out from the traditional cartridges that have been the industry norm for so long?

  1. More for the same: The 400 ml foil holds approximately 35% more product compared to the standard 310 ml cartridge. Despite sharing the same dimensions as the cartridge, you can now enjoy a higher volume of sealant without any increase in physical size. This means fewer refills and increased efficiency, ultimately saving you time and money.
  2. Economical and Efficient: The foil packaging features an efficient dispensing mechanism that ensures every bit of the sealant/adhesive is utilised, leaving little to no waste behind. By reducing waste, you not only optimise your consumption but also contribute to a more sustainable construction industry.
  3. Reduced Waste Disposal: Once completely empty, the foil can be easily crushed down into a compact “slug” that takes up just 5% of the space compared to a traditional cartridge. This results in a remarkable 95% reduction in waste, leading to significant cost savings in disposal.
